Our Instructors

Prof. Dr. Serda Türkel Oter completed her Bachelor's degree at Selçuk University in the department of Turkish Classical Music between 1997 and 2002.

She began her career as an instructor at Dicle University Turkish Music State Conservatory between 2002 and 2004, while simultaneously working as a contracted voice artist at TRT Diyarbakır Radio — taking part as a soloist in live and recorded TV programmes, radio programmes and concert events.

In 2005 she completed her Master's degree at Fırat University in the field of Ancient Literature, with a thesis titled "The Relationship Between Usûl and Prosody in the Composed Poems of Şeyh Galib."

After working at Selçuk University Dilek Sabancı State Conservatory between 2007 and 2011, she completed her doctoral thesis at Ankara University — "Analysis of Hâfız Sadeddin Kaynak's Works Rich in Meaning Prosody" — in the field of Turkish Religious Music. In the same year she was appointed as Assistant Professor at Gazi University Turkish Music State Conservatory, where she later held administrative positions including Head of the Voice Education Department.

In 2014 she received the title of Associate Professor, and continued to publish articles and book chapters in international journals on topics including form analysis, work analysis, meaning prosody and usûl-vezin relations.

In 2016 she was invited to UCLA as a Visiting Scholar, attending postgraduate courses in musicology and Middle Eastern Music, and performing three solo concerts during her stay.

In 2019 her solo album — "Hammâmizâde İsmâil Dede Efendi with His Less Performed Works in the 241st Year of His Birth" — was released by Kalan Music, one of Turkey's most prestigious music labels.

Her international performance career includes solo concerts at Trinity College Dublin (2022), Rotterdam Codarts University (2022) and the Hoppa Project Houston Turkish Music Festival (2021), where she performed Buzurg Takim as a soloist.
