Turkish Usûl (Rhythm) Theory I & II

Master the rhythmic cycles at the heart of Turkish Makam Music

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is highly recommended for students who want to take Oud or Kanun lessons but have not seriously studied music before. It runs alongside instrument lessons and makes your practice sessions significantly more productive.

⚠️ Note: We strongly encourage students enrolling in this course to also sign up for the Oud Beginners course alongside it.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Usûl is the rhythmic foundation of Turkish Makam Music — a system of rhythmic cycles that gives every piece its pulse, character and structure. This course teaches you to read, write and feel these rhythms, from the most basic beats to complex syncopated cycles.
